Dear friends and colleagues,

The Combined Scientific Meeting in Anaesthesiology 2005 (CSM 2005), jointly organized by the Hong Kong College of Anaesthesiologists and the Society of Anaesthetists of Hong Kong, will be held from 27-28 August 2005 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Meeting is one of the most important gatherings for the anaesthetists and medical professionals in Hong Kong.

The Meeting is a satellite symposium of the 11th World Congress on Pain with the theme of "East Meets West in Pain Medicine". Hong Kong is a dynamic city in Asia with the fascinating mix of East and West, modernity and tradition. Here we have advanced western medicine, but we also have the traditional Chinese medicine built on the culture of many thousand years. The concurrent anaesthesia theme for this Meeting is "New Horizons in Anaesthesia" .It is our aim to explore the latest medical knowledge and the development of cutting-edge technology in anaesthesia.

The CSM 2005 will offer a comprehensive scientific programme of Workshops, Refresher Course, Lecture and Symposium covering various topical issues, of which, the Acupuncture Workshop would provide a unique practical experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine. We are very fortunate to have many renowned overseas and local speakers to present at the Meeting.
